The Des Moines Show took place on December 4-5, 1998. We had a good turn out
with twenty-three birds and five exhibitors.
The judging was done by a panel of our own exhibitors: Gary, Bill, Andy, and
George. Each person rated the birds accordingly and notes were compared and
tallied up and a best was selected.
Des Moines, Iowa and other parts of the Midwest have always had a few breeders
of Flying Oriental Rollers. It was nice to meet many people who were interested
in them. Mr. Daily is one of them and we’re happy to have him in our club and
partaking in this show.
Overall the shows were a great success. Being able to compare and see your
fellow breeder’s birds and gathering to talk Oriental Rollers is what these
exhibitions are all about. We had a great opportunity to expose our breed to
hundreds of people and educate them on our breed. I strongly feel that through
these exhibitions we can attain our goal of educating people on this
misunderstood breed.
At this show we were able to hold our first meeting, ironing out a few issues
regarding the written standard, drawing, constitution and by-laws. Also
discussed was our itinerary for 1999.
